Health Insurance Exchanges Remain A Politically Charged Issue.

The Washington Post /Kaiser Health News (3/30, Appleby) reports that while health insurance exchanges sound like a good idea that could lower prices and increase competition, it is currently entangled in political debate. The article adds that some “Republican governors are threatening to refuse to set up exchanges unless they get more flexibility over Medicaid, the state-federal health program for the poor.” Yet, other governors say they will not implement the healthcare law at all. The article notes that if the exchanges are “designed poorly…healthy people could avoid the exchanges, leaving them to sicker people with rising premiums.”
