Poll: Health Reform Benefits For Those With Pre-Existing Conditions Not Known.

CQ (9/24, Bunis, Subscription Publication) reported, “The latest Kaiser Family Foundation tracking poll shows that health care overhaul advocates have some educating to do when it comes to a population that will clearly be helped by the measure: those with pre-existing conditions.” Although most “Americans polled knew know that the overhaul (PL 111-148, PL 111-152) will benefit people with pre-existing conditions, 44 percent of those who live with an afflicted individual don’t believe they will be better off, according to the” poll conducted Sept. 7 to Sept. 12. Of those with pre-existing conditions, “31 percent said the health law doesn’t include the high-risk pools and 14 percent didn’t know about them. 35 percent said the law doesn’t prohibit insurers from setting lifetime coverage caps, although it does, and 19 percent said they didn’t know if the law bans such a practice.”
